Foot Pain

Common Foot Conditions and How to Treat Them

Foot pain causes discomfort, places limitations on activities and interferes with exercise and even which shoes a person can wear. At Premier Foot & Ankle, we offer a range of solutions for painful feet, from custom orthotics to laser foot treatment. Our dedicated McKinney podiatrists want nothing more than to help patients with their foot problems, so we offer the following advice about some common foot problems and how to treat them below.

Heel Spurs

Heel spurs are bony growths on the calcaneus, or heel bone. This painful condition can cause irritation to the plantar fascia. We offer laser treatments to remove the bony growth and relieve pain.

Plantar Fasciitis

Plantar fasciitis is a chronic irritation of the plantar fascia, which is a long fibrous band of tissue that runs the length of the arch of the foot. Irritation from repetitive injuries, high arches, and poorly fitting shoes are common causes of this problem. Heel spurs can also irritate the plantar fascia. We offer custom fit orthotics as a conservative treatment for this painful condition.

Stress Fractures

The feet contain 26 bones each. Many of these bones are small but bear several times your body weight with each step. Stress fractures occur easily and can develop in any bone, although they are most common in the metatarsals. Repetitive injuries are the most common cause of this type of fracture. Pain is usually felt in the frontal portion of the foot, especially with activity. A fracture of the heel bone often results from a fall and causes immediate pain, while other fractures usually build in pain level over a period of time.

Bunions

Bunions are a misalignment of the bones of the big toe on either foot. The misalignment causes the big toe to bend toward the second toe. The most common cause of this painful condition is tightly fitted shoes. Pain, irritation, swelling, and redness are the symptoms of bunions.
