Weekend Warriors at Risk for Achilles Tendonitis
You have an incredibly busy week. Work and kids keep you busy, so your only time for exercise is the weekend. While maintaining fitness is important, cramming too much into just a few workouts can put you at risk for injury. Weekend warriors – people who pack a week’s worth of exercise into Saturday and Sunday – should seek help to prevent things like Achilles tendonitis in McKinney. Take it Easy
Weekend warriors incur more injuries than those who do their exercises in moderation. In fact, this group of people account for the largest demographic of people who have nonprofessional sports-related injuries. Of those injuries, Achilles tendonitis and ankle sprains are some of the most common. Injuries to the Achilles occur when there is repetitive or intense strain on that tendon. Weekend warriors have a tendency of going hard in their workout, which can create that strain.
To prevent these injuries, it is imperative to commit to exercise throughout the week – not just on weekends. Intense workouts for just two days a week can create muscle shock and invite injury. If you only have two days to exercise, be sure to properly warm up and cool down before and after your workout. Also, listen to your body. If you feel a pull or a strain, stop and consult with a physician.
