Treatment for Ankle Sprain
Ankle sprains are another common foot condition. Ankle sprains are caused by excessive inward or outward movement of the ankle beyond the normal range of motion. Ankle sprains are characterized by one or more torn or partially torn ligaments. Sprained ankles are especially common in sports where aggressive lateral movements are the norm. Premier Foot & Ankle of Dallas, Mesquite, Frisco, TX, Plano, TX and Allen, TX specializes in sports injuries.
Ankle Sprain Grades
Depending upon the severity of the sprain, some general treatments include the following:
- Alternating ice and heat
- Compression
- Elevation
- Braces
- Immobilization
Reinjury is common and some sprained ankles may require a cast.
Ankle Fracture Symptoms
Ankle fractures are the most common type of bone fracture. It is often difficult to diagnose an ankle fracture, as the symptoms are similar to a sprained ankle and other complications are commonplace. For example, the Achilles tendon may be ruptured, rather than an ankle fracture.
