Custom Foot Orthotics
Custom orthotics are used for a myriad of podiatric treatments, including preventative measures. Orthotics take many different forms. There are two different categories for orthotics, though there are a variety of grades for a specific purpose.
Functional Orthotics: Orthotics specifically designed to treat abnormal foot mechanics. They are made to reduce or eliminate undesirable foot pronation, as well as reduce shock while walking. Functional orthotics are used to prevent repetitive stress injuries.
Accommodative Orthotics: Orthotics designed to reduce or eliminate mild pain and correct minor problems. Accommodative orthotics are typically used in pediatric podiatry, as foot problems can generally be corrected if detected at an early age. Braces can be used on children as young as infants. Night bars can be used to correct pronation issues while a child sleeps.
